Located on Green Island just over 3 miles southeast of Brooklin near Naskeag, the Blue Hill Bay light (sometimes referred to as the Eggemoggin Light) started operations in 1857 with a fifth order Fresnel lens. The tower is attached via a chartroom to the 1.5 story wooden colonial cape-style house which was completed just prior to the lighthouse in 1856. At 22 feet, the lighthouse is no taller than the keeper's residence and the focal plane is only 25 feet. The island is sufficiently flat that its size differs drastically between low and high tide.

The light was deactivated in 1933. Light duties were replaced by a skeletal structure nearby in 1935 when the station was sold to a private owner. It was sold again in 1995 and presently serves as a private summer home. The Fresnel lens remains in the tower but is not lit. The site is closed to the public and can only be photographed by boat or air.
