As with the Lubec Channel light, the Goose Rocks light is located on a cast iron tower built on a concrete caisson. Commonly referred to as a "spark-plug" tower, this light is built on a rock at the eastern entrance to the Fox Islands Thorofare between the islands of Vinalhaven and North Haven. The keeper's quarters is located inside tower, consisting of a few small rooms. The 51 foot tower was built in 1890, employing a fourth order Fresnel which has been replaced by a solar powered 250mm optic. A fog horn blasts every ten seconds. The station was automated in 1963 and is owned by the Coast Guard. Closed to the public, the Goose Rocks station can be seen distantly from a surrounding island but is best seen by boat or air.
