Similar to the Isle au Haut lighthouse in eastern Penobscot Bay, the tower on this site consists of a granite block base supporting a brick upper section. The upper part of the tower is painted white while the lantern and gallery are black. As with the Isle au Haut light, Marshall Point Lighthousethe lighthouse was constructed on outlying boulders a short distance from land and is accessed via a raised, wooden walkway built atop granite piles. The station was first established in 1832 but the lighthouse was replaced by the existing structure and a fifth-order Fresnel lens in 1857. In 1895, the current 1.5 story, wooden, colonial-revival style, gambrel-roof keeper's residence (see picture above) was constructed after its predecessor (see picture at right) was destroyed by lightning. The site's fog signal building (1898) has been dismantled but the original bell is on display. A granite oil house, also from 1898, remains on-site as well.

Built back in the day to guide ships in and out of the hectic Port Clyde, this 31 foot tall lighthouse is still operational. The light was automated in 1980 and a 300mm optic was installed a year later. The original lens is on exhibit at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland.

The site is now owned by the Town of St. George. The St. George Historical Society renovated and transformed the keeper's quarters into the Marshall Point Lighthouse Museum which includes a reconstructed replica kitchen completed in 1995. The museum is on the lower floor of the refurbished structure while the upper floor is a caretaker's residence. The site is open to the public and administered by the Maine Historic Preservation Society.
